北京大学外国语学院下设英语语言文学系、俄语语言文学系、法语语言文学系、德语语言文学系、西班牙语葡萄牙语语言文学系、阿拉伯语语言文化系、日语语言文化系、南亚学系、东南亚语言文化系、西亚语言文化系、朝鲜(韩国)语言文化系、亚非语言文化系、外国语言学及应用语言学研究所、世界文学研究所、翻译硕士专业学位教育中心等15个系所中心；拥有英语、俄语、法语、德语、西班牙语、葡萄牙语、日语、阿拉伯语、蒙古语、朝鲜语、越南语、泰国语、缅甸语、印尼语、菲律宾语、印地语、梵巴语、乌尔都语、波斯语、希伯来语等20个本科语种专业。除招生语种外，学院还拥有拉丁语、马来语、孟加拉语、中古波斯语(巴列维语)、阿卡德语、苏美尔语、赫梯语、阿拉米语、藏语等现代和古代语言的教学资源并开设过课程；学院有教师从事古冰岛语、古叙利亚语、圣经希伯莱语、吐火罗语、格鲁吉亚语、于阗语等语言的研究。学院开课语言和研究语言的数量正在稳步增加。
学院共有1个一级学科博士点，10个二级学科博士点，1个博士后流动站。在学院所属的系所中心中，除外国语言学及应用语言学研究所只招收硕士和博士研究生、世界文学研究所只招收硕士研究生、翻译硕士专业学位教育中心只招收专业学位硕士研究生外，其他各系均招收本科、硕士、博士等各个层次的学生。学院现有在校学生1200余名，其中本科生800余名，硕士研究生近300名，博士研究生近200名。
学院主办有《国外文学》等5种学术刊物，并设有28个虚体研究机构和学术团体。学院拥有先进的同声传译教室；卫星电视接收系统能够接收16个语种的25套电视节目。北京大学图书馆外国语学院分馆拥有21个语种的21万余册藏书。
About SFL
TheSchool of Foreign Languages is home to all the foreign language programs of theuniversity, namely, the departments of English Language and Culture, RussianLanguage and Culture, French Language and Culture, German Language and Culture,Spanish and Portuguese Languages and Cultures, Arabic Language and Cultures,Japanese Language and Culture, South Asian Languages and Cultures, SoutheastAsian Cultural Studies, West Asian Languages and Cultures, Korean Language andCulture, Asian and African Languages and Cultures, the Institutes of ForeignLinguistics and Applied Linguistics and World Literature, and the MTI Center.There are altogether twenty languages in which undergraduates may major,including English, Russian, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese,Arabic, Mongolian, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Burmese, Indonesian, Pilipino,Hindi, Sanskrit and Pali, Urdu, Persian, and Hebrew. The School of ForeignLanguages has also offered courses in Latin, Malay, Bengali, Pahlavi, Akkadian,Sumerian, Hittite, Aramaic, and Tibetan. Faculty research, however, involves awider range of ancient languages, including Old Icelandic, Syriac, BiblicalHebrew, Tocharian, Georgian, and Khotanese. The numbers of language courses andcourses in language studies are on a steady rise。
Studentsmay seek the Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral degree with a major in all SFLfields and programs with the exception of the Institute of World Literature andthe MTI Center, which is a professional program that only admits graduatestudents at the Master's level, and the Institute of Foreign Linguistics andApplied Linguistics, which is a graduate program that offers both the Master'sand Doctoral degrees. There are over 1,200 students majoring in variouslanguages and disciplines within SFL, 800 of them undergraduates, 300 pursuingthe Master's degree, and over 200 the doctoral。(责任编辑：www.360gaokao.com)
