培养目标本专业培养适应社会主义市场经济建设需要，德、智、体、美全面发展，具备扎实的英语语言文学基本理论知识和英语语言基本技能，并能熟练运用英语在翻译、教学、外事管理部门和涉外企事业单位从事英语语言文字工作、具有创新精神和实践能力的应用型人才。
培养要求本专业学生主要学习英语语言、文学、历史、政治、经济、社会文化等方面的基本理论和基本知识，受到英语听、说、读、写、译等方面的良好的训练，掌握一定的科研方法，具有一定的人文社会科学和自然科学基本理论知识，掌握本专业的基础知识、基本理论、基本技能，具有独立获取知识、提出问题、分析问题和解决问题的基本能力及开拓创新的精神具备一定的从事本专业业务工作的能力和适应相邻专业业务工作的基本能力与素质，具有从事翻译、教学、管理工作的业务水平。
